<p>Wheels India ltd has a separate manufacturing unit for Forged Aluminum wheels catering to various truck segments abroad. Aluminum alloy wheels are single piece flow wheels without any welding operation involved.</p>
<p>Critical success factors (CSFs) are: Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost.</p>
<p>Management has directed the team to focus on quality, cost and productivity and has fixed stiff targets considering company’s long time survival and business growth.</p>
<p>The unit was facing a Key Result Area(KRA) of Reducing the rejection of wheels which is the high cost factor.</p>

<p>The Piston PO-414 is manufactured in our machine shop line no.2 and is supplied to our Customer, Husqvarna, USA who had projected a demand of 10752 Nos. per week, while the current production rate was 5000 Nos. per week. The quantum change (an increase in volume by 115%) in the Customer demand posed a challenge to the company to deliver “on time every time”, defect free products. Therefore Piston PO-414 was selected for productivity improvement project. However we also did PQ analysis for the last six months data.</p>
